Interlibrary Loan Service

Interlibrary Loan Service Restrictions

Only UTHSCSA borrowers and area health professionals are eligible for Interlibrary Loan service. All others will be referred to other sources. Rush service is not available for area health professionals.

The Library will process no more than 5 Rush requests per requestor per day.

The Library will pay a maximum of $20 to procure an item from another library. If a requested item cannot be delivered for less than $20, the requestor will be contacted and asked to pay any charges exceeding $20, in addition to the usual ILL fee.

There will be a $5.00 surcharge per item for each request exceeding 50 by one individual in a calendar year.

Documents faxed to the Library and again to your office may be difficult to read. The Library cannot guarantee copy quality.

Interlibrary Loan Turnaround Time

Regular requests: Requests are processed within two working days with items delivered by campus mail or to the Circulation desk. The usual turnaround time is ten working days.

Priority requests: Requests are processed the next working day. Possible delivery is assured within five working days after processing.

Rush/Clinical Emergency requests: Requests are processed ASAP. Articles are delivered by fax or electronic delivery to the Circulation Desk within 48 hours where possible. Books and AV material not available in San Antonio may be shipped by Federal Express for an additional fee. Rush service is provided only for UTHSCSA faculty, staff, and students.

Delivery Deadline Guarantee

All requests submitted with complete and correct citations (author, article title, journal title, volume, date, and page numbers) as Priority or Rush requests will be delivered by the specified deadline. However, delivery times depend on other libraries. Every effort will be made to get your material within the designated time or the next lower fee will be charged. Incomplete citations will be accepted, but delivery deadlines are not guaranteed.
