Construction is progressing nicely. Some walls have paint and networking/wiring is ongoing. There’s plenty more to do down there, so please bear with us as the noise continues.
It has been noisy lately as the 2nd floor of the Library is connected to the 2nd floor under Subway. This meant that there is ongloing drilling through concrete walls and floors.
Don’t forget that if the construction noise bothers you, you can ask at Circulation for earplugs.
Construction under the Library is progressing as expected. We can’t post any pictures of the construction, but if you have visited the building lately you have certainly heard the noise under your feet.

Today, March 17, Library Staff completed the move of furniture and computers from the 2nd Floor to the 3rd floor. Computers and the Library printers are now available on the 3rd floor (instead of the 2nd floor). Right now there are still only two computers on each of the other upper floors.
The major construction begins on the 2nd floor on March 23rd and is expected to last until 2010. The purpose of the construction is to create additional classrooms for campus.
With all of the wiring necessary to move the computers to the 3rd floor, the Briscoe Library also added new electrical and network outlets for laptop users along two walls.
The 2nd floor construction will be gearing up toward the end of March, so today, Library staff have started moving computers to the 3rd floor.
As part of getting ready for the major 2nd floor construction classroom project we are preparing to close the 2nd floor. Today, the post and beam wiring system installation was started - this will allow us to move the 2nd floor computers up to the 3rd floor. Once the wiring is in place, we’ll move up groups of tables and computers.
Workers continue to prepare for the networking and electricity on the 3rd floor.
At this point, most of the construction is in preparation for the forthcoming 2nd floor renovation. Right now, most of the noise is from the 3rd floor. This week, the workers will be preparing data lines and electricity for when Library computers move from the 2nd to the 3rd floor.
Behind the plastic that is visible in the computing area on the 3rd floor is construction of an office that is relocating from the 2nd floor to the 3rd. The plastic helps control the dust from drywall and insulation.

On the 2nd floor in the staff area, new walls are being constructed to prepare for the upcoming major construction project.
