Find at UTHSCSA

What is FIND at UTHSCSA?

FIND at UTHSCSA is a finding aid for electronic journals. FIND at UTHSCSA allows users to click on a citation in a database and view a list of services that provide UT HSC users with access to the journal. Look for the button or a link to FIND at UTHSCSA in many library databases.

How does FIND at UTHSCSA work?

Databases such as Ovid and PubMed send citation information that is matched against the electronic resources subscribed to by the UT HSC Library. If UT HSC has electronic full-text access, you are offered a link to the article. FIND at UTHSCSA works in conjunction with the Library's Electronic Journals Web site.

What happens if the UT HSC does not have the electronic journal I need?

FIND at UTHSCSA will appear on all citations within most databases. If the UT HSC does not have electronic access to a journal, FIND at UTHSCSA will present you with options for obtaining the journal article. Options include searching the UT HSC Library book and journal catalog for print holdings or entering a request for an interlibrary loan. You may also send a suggestion to the Library to purchase a subscription to the journal. The purchase suggestion will be reviewed by Library staff along with other journal subscription suggestions.

Why are there several options for full-text for some articles?

Sometimes the UT HSC Library licenses full-text packages from third party vendors, and there is occasionally some duplication between these packages.

How can I report a problem?

Links for asking a librarian for help or to report a problem are located at the top and bottom of each UT HSC Libraries Electronic Journals page. You can also email AskALibrarian@uthscsa.edu or call (210) 567-2450.

Why are some articles from non-health sciences periodicals, such as Oprah or Shakespeare Quarterly?

The UT HSC Library participates in the TexShare state-wide library sharing consortium and receives many general interest, humanities, social science, science, mathematics, and business magazines and journals through TexShare. These magazines and journals are provided as a benefit of our membership in TexShare.

What is CrossRef and why does it say we may have access to articles?

CrossRef is a collaborative effort by publishers to make full-text citation linking possible. The CrossRef link appears on the FIND at UTHSCSA pages when the link resolver has found the citation in the CrossRef database. You can and should try the CrossRef link but this does not necessarily mean that you will have access once you get to the journal's Web site. The UT HSC Library may not have access to the journal title. For information visit CrossRef.
