What is Article Delivery Service?
- If you need a copy of an article or book chapter that the library owns, you can request a copy made for you through the Article Delivery Service.
What is Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?
- A service we offer when we borrow items one not in our collection from another library.
- You can request ILL when you need an article from a journal that our library does not own, is at the bindery, or is missing.
- When you need a book or a chapter from a book that our library does not own.
- Other materials not owned by our library (i.e. dissertations).
What is LoansomeDoc?
- LoansomeDoc is a document delivery service developed by the National Library of Medicine (NLM)
- It is the document-ordering component of NLM's PubMed search service
- Using this service via PubMed you can request copies of articles from a library's journal collection

What levels of ILL service are available?
Please note: Delivery times are estimates and not guaranteed.
- Regular
- Turnaround time varies (average 1-2 weeks, often sooner).

- Rush
- Every attempt is made to obtain the document within 2 business days.
- Rush requests received after 2:00 pm will be processed on the next business day (except for clinical emergencies).
How can I place an order for Article Delivery services?
All requests are placed through the ILLiad system.
Who can use ILL services?
- Currently-registered UT HSC and UHS Affiliates (students, staff, faculty, residents, and post-docs).
- Currently-registered Retired UT HSC Faculty and Staff.
- Currently-registered Area Health Professionals (must present certificate or license for practice).
Who is eligible to use LoansomeDoc Service?
- This service is available to everyone with no eligibility restrictions

How can I register to use the Loansome Doc Service?
- Prior to using Loansome Doc you need to establish an agreement with UT HSC Libraries
- The registration form is available for download from the library's website
- Once the completed registration form is submitted to tello@uthscsa.edu you will receive a "LIBID" or library ID code
- You will use this code to register for Loansome Doc service at PubMed and set up your user ID and Password
What methods of payment are acceptable?
- UT HSC departmental account number
- Credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express)
What materials are available through ILL?
- Copies of articles from Journals, Book Chapters, etc. (as permitted by copyright laws).
- Circulating copies of Books, Dissertations, Audiovisuals, and other materials.
How do I order/request Loansome Doc documents in PubMed after I am registered?
- Perform a literature search using PubMed
- Select your articles and click on the drop-down menu for Send to, select Order, click Send to
- The system will prompt you to enter your User ID and Password
- Select Order Documents from the drop-down selection box and click on Go
- Review/edit/enter order and delivery information and click on Send Order button
- Your requests are sent electronically to the Briscoe Library for processing
How quickly will my Article Delivery order be processed?
Requests are generally processed in the order in which they are received
The following are the service levels available:
Rush/Clinical Emergency Requests
- Orders are processed as soon as they are received
- Orders received by 12:00 Noon will be ready by 5:00 pm that day.
- Requests received after 12:00 Noon are ready by 2:00 pm the following working day.
Priority Requests
- Orders are generally ready within 24 hours of receipt of the request, but may take up to five working days.
Regular Requests
- Orders are processed in the order they are received and are generally completed in ten working days.
If a rush or priority order is not delivered by the deadline, the Library will reduce the fee to next category.
What materials are not available through ILL?
The following items are usually not available through ILL:
- Rare materials, reference works, genealogy books, recently published books, textbooks, and dissertations.
Can I check the status of my LoansomeDoc requests?
A PubMed user can request a status of LoansomeDoc orders almost immediately after an order is sent.
- Go to the LoansomeDoc ordering page (https://docline.gov/loansome/login.cfm)
- Select "Status Of Orders" from the drop-down selection box.
- Click "Go"
How many copies can I request at a time using Article Delivery?
- You may request up to 100 items at a time for regular service.
- A maximum of 20 articles may be requested for PRIORITY level service.
- A maximum of 5 articles per day may be requested for RUSH service
Can I request multiple copies or more than one chapter in a book from Article Delivery?
- In order to comply with copyright laws only one article from a journal issue, or one chapter from a book (neither exceeding 50 pages) will be copied per order.
- The Library will not make multiple copies of items.
Where do I pick up Article Delivery items?
- All orders will be filled electronically if an e-mail address is given and a credit card or UT HSC account is used to pay for the item.
- Print orders can be picked up at the Circulation Desk on the third floor of the Briscoe Library.
- There is a $2 additional charge per item for FAX requests, and a $3 additional charge for the order for U.S. Mail deliveries.
- There is no charge for campus mail.
- Electronically-delivered articles will be available in your ILLiad account.
Article Delivery Service Levels of Service
- Rush: Maximum 5 Articles
(In by 12:00 Noon, out by 5:00 pm / after 12:00 Noon, out by 2:00 pm next day) - Priority: Maximum 20 Articles
(24 hr. turn around time) - Regular: Maximum 100 Articles

You may specify one of the following delivery methods when ordering documents:
- Desktop Delivery (PDF)
- U.S. Mail
- Fax (additional charge)
Article Delivery Methods and Costs
- Desktop Delivery: (Article will be available in PDF format on the Library's website for two weeks.) No extra charge.
- Fax Article: $2.00 additional charge per article.
- U.S. Mail: $3.00 Postage Fee.
- Pick up at Library Circulation Desk: No extra charge.
- Campus Mail: No extra charge.
How can eligible users borrow items from nearby libraries?
Users can request a TexShare card from the Information Desk.
- This card allows UT HSC users to borrow materials from many local institutions.
- Please refer to the Information Desk for rules and regulations applicable for the use of this service.

How can I check out a book that's at one of your other libraries?
If you want to check out a book that's owned by one of our libraries, but don't want to have to drive there to get it, you can request that the book be brought to your local library, where you can check it out more conveniently.
In our catalog, just click on the
button near the top of the page that gives information about the book. You'll be prompted to sign in with your last name, HSC badge number, and library PIN. The book will be sent to your home library, and we'll send you an e-mail message when it's ready to pick up.

Who can use the Desktop Delivery service?
- All users can request articles from the UT HSC library's journal collection through Desktop Delivery.
- Only UT HSC faculty, staff, students, residents and Area Health Professionals are eligible to use Desktop Delivery to receive articles requested through the Interlibrary Loan service.

The copyright law of the United States [Title 17, United States Code] governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted materials.
