HarpWeek
A highlight of the HarpWeek website is the collection of carefully scanned full page images that allows
you to view the original pages of Harper's Weekly. The size of Harper's Weekly pages (11" x 15.5")
prohibits the use of standard Internet browser print functions at this time.
There are two ways of printing images:
- Windows and Macintosh: Page images may be saved to disk in most cases by using your browser's save function.
Printing the Harper's Weekly pages can best be
accomplished by downloading the page to disk, then opening the page in an
image-manipulation program such as Photoshop, Photo-Paint, Imaging, etc.
For best results, do NOT use the print button on your browser - it
will not print the entire width of the page (it prints the left portion only.)
If your printer includes an option for scaling, you may use the browser print
function by setting the printer scale to 50%. The resulting print will be a
reduced sized image on an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper.
- Windows Only:
HarpWeek's printing application provides a variety of image manipulation
capabilities (zoom, rotate, lighten) as well as print options for standard or
tabloid sized paper. The print application can only be installed on 32 bit
Windows Operating Systems (Windows 95/98/NT4.0/2000). Additionally, the
printer used must have a resolution of 600dpi or greater and at least 6MB of
memory (8MB recommended).
- Create a folder on your computer called InstallPrint.
- Go to the URL http://www.library.uthscsa.edu/consultation/harpweek/hwpinstall.exe
to download the self-extracting file "HWPInstall.exe".
- Save this file in the "InstallPrint" folder you created above.
- Double click on "HWPInstall.exe" and extract to the same folder
(InstallPrint).
- Run the file "setup.exe" which will be in the "InstallPrint" folder.
- This will install the HarpWeek Printing Application by default in a
folder "C:\Program Files\HarpWeekPrint".
- Important information about running the application with specific
browsers is displayed during the installation and is available in the "readme.txt"
file in the installation directory.
On the pages of HarpWeek site which display full sized pages, there will be a
link
just above the image which says "Click here to print this page". Clicking
on this link downloads
the special printing images and launches the Printing Application
