Authorized Access to Electronic Resources

The UTHSCSA Library licenses electronic resources from various vendors in order for UTHSCSA faculty, staff, students, and residents to have access to these information resources. Licenses are generated by vendors, reviewed and revised as necessary by Library staff, referred to the UTHSCSA Legal Affairs Office for legal review and form, and signed by the Executive Vice President for Business Affairs/Chief Financial Officer.

Authorized users of UTHSCSA licensed resources include:

  • UTHSCSA faculty, staff, currently enrolled students, and residents in UTHSCSA programs;
  • Clinical and adjunct faculty with letters of appointment from the UTHSCSA President or who are listed on the Clinical/Adjunct Faculty List generated by the President's Office and kept at the Circulation Desk;
  • Individuals with written documentation from a UTHSCSA department stating that they are on temporary, visiting, or other assignment at the UTHSCSA;
  • UTHSCSA retirees;
  • Walk-in users of the Library while on Library premises, except if prohibited by a license agreement.

Whenever possible, the Library seeks licenses that authenticate users by the IP address of their computer. The campus IP address range is registered with vendors. In some cases, vendors require use of a login and passwords. These logins are only given to authorized UTHSCSA faculty, staff, students, residents, and other authorized users and are not to be shared.

Access from off-campus (remote access) to electronic resources is extended when permitted by the license to faculty, staff, currently enrolled students, residents, clinical and adjunct faculty, and others with appropriate documentation from a UTHSCSA department. Because of licensing restrictions, individuals who are not affiliated with the UTHSCSA in one of these capacities are not authorized to use electronic resources outside of the UTHSCSA campuses. Off-campus access for authorized users is provided through EZ Proxy or through use of the UTHSCSA VPN client.
